After Hunter Gardner's "The Aetiology of Illness in Latin Love Elegy", it is now time to share another abstract. To continue on this elegiac avenue, today we introduce Ioannis Ziogas' "The Anatomy of Pleasure in Ovid's 'Art of Love'". We're very excited about what looks like an extremely promising paper!

As we have started receiving abstracts from our amazing speakers, it is now time to share and circulate some of them. We are beginning with Hunter Gardner's "The Aetiology of Illness in Latin Love Elegy", and will keep on posting other abstracts regularly. Please, go to the abstracts page and keep an eye on it - further updates coming soon!
This conference picks up on the increasing spread of studies exploring the intersections between medicine and humanities, which has led to the development of the, now well-established, interdisciplinary field of Medical Humanities. Whilst Greek medical texts have received some attention by classical scholars, as have the intersections between Greek literature and medicine, Latin literature, and particularly poetry, has not been interrogated vis-à-vis ancient medical sources.
The conference aims to offer a platform for a discussion of the interactions, and interferences, between Medicine and Latin poetry. Given the originality of the topic, the workshop is only a starting point towards the creation of a worldwide network, whose purpose is to gather scholars from the fields of Humanities and Medical Sciences, as well as related disciplines that are willing to explore further the connections between body diseases and Latin poetry. If you think you would be interested in this topic and/or have something to say about that, do not hesitate to get in touch with us at [email protected] and stay tuned by following our events, blog posts and general updates on this page. |
