International Network
for the study of the interactions between ancient medicine and Latin poetry

Our research network explores the connections between Roman poetic production and ancient medical traditions of the human body, by bringing together scholars working in the fields of ancient medicine and Latin literature.
The ongoing epidemic crisis compelled us to rethink the concepts of body and disease in light of  their impact on human nature, as well as seek new methods to cope with the increasing sense of anxiety and vulnerability generated by such pandemic diseases.

By building on the recent developments in the field of medical humanities, we aim to investigate the intersections between medical sciences and Latin literary texts, thus exploring the ways in which medicine is integrated into poetry and the ways in which poetry, in turn, can propagate medical knowledge across various social classes and cultural contexts.
