This conference picks up on the increasing spread of studies exploring the intersections between medicine and humanities, which has led to the development of the, now well-established, interdisciplinary field of Medical Humanities. Whilst Greek medical texts have received some attention by classical scholars, as have the intersections between Greek literature and medicine, Latin literature, and particularly poetry, has not been interrogated vis-à-vis ancient medical sources.
The conference aims to offer a platform for a discussion of the interactions, and interferences, between Medicine and Latin poetry. Given the originality of the topic, the workshop is only a starting point towards the creation of a worldwide network, whose purpose is to gather scholars from the fields of Humanities and Medical Sciences, as well as related disciplines that are willing to explore further the connections between body diseases and Latin poetry.
